Our overview
The Iridium 9555 has been tried and tested for several years. It is used by emergency services, military, commercial operators as well as individuals for their own domestic use when away from a mobile network across Australia.
The Iridium network has 66 satellites in its global network and generally speaking is not directional in use when compared to some of the other networks. The Iridium 9555 is supplied with a small magnetic base antenna which when placed on the roof of a car will assist reception. A vehicle will shield a satellite phone from the satellites if no external antenna is fitted. As with a normal mobile you may experience drop outs as you drive through a cellular network, so to you may experience a drop out as the network rotates around the earth and you are handed from one satellite to another.
If the availability of receiving calls is a priority for you then we usually recommend the Iridium network or installing an in-vehicle kit with external antenna if using the Inmarsat phone and network.
If a satellite phone is going to be a part of your daily communication then we also suggest having a look at the new Iridium 9575 Extreme, the top of the range phone and a great investment with expected years of use.

Global coverage (use these minutes anyware in the world)
6 x Starter vouchers are available 75, 200, 500, 3000 & 5000 minute vouchers
Top up vouchers available as above, plus 30 DAY extensions and 50 minute top up vouchers. The 30 day extensions do not add any additional minutes of call time but do allow you to extend the period to use any unused credit by a further 30 days. The 50 minute vouchers do not add further longevity to the life of the card, they simply add a further 50 minutes of call time. E.G.To obtain a further 50 minutes of calls plus a further 30 days to use them in addition to the current validity period you will need to purchase both of these.
Validity Period: as stated with the original purchase and with a 90 day grace period. This means that you have 90 days to top up or extend your card after the previously purchased voucher has expired. After this time you will need to be issued with a new sim card and phone number.
Usage Costs
All pre-paid Iridium usage is calculated in units. For simplicity, vouchers are listed as ISU-PSTN minutes (this means calls to land line or mobile telephones, not special numbers such as 1300, 13 or 1800 numbers or other satellite phone networks) on our price lists:
e.g. The 500 minute voucher is actually a 30,000 unit card.
500 minutes refers to calls from an Iridium to a PSTN line, which is charged at 60 units/minute.
