The Iridium 9555 has been tried and tested for several years. It is used by emergency services, military, commercial operators as well as individuals for their own domestic use when away from a mobile network across Australia.
The Iridium network has 66 satellites in its global network and generally speaking is not directional in use when compared to some of the other networks. The Iridium 9555 is supplied with a small magnetic base antenna which when placed on the roof of a car will assist reception. A vehicle will shield a satellite phone from the satellites if no external antenna is fitted. As with a normal mobile you may experience drop outs as you drive through a cellular network, so to you may experience a drop out as the network rotates around the earth and you are handed from one satellite to another.
If the availability of receiving calls is a priority for you then we usually recommend the Iridium network or installing an in-vehicle kit with external antenna if using the Inmarsat phone and network.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
PRICES: Prices are valid as at 1st June 2011 and subject to change without notice.
CONTRACT PERIODS: Casual Plan: 4 month minimum contract.
FLAGFALL: A flagfall of $0.40 applies on all calls.
BILLING INCREMENTS: Minimum call charge is 1 minute, subsequent billing is in 30 second increments.
GST: Prices for calls made on the Casual plans are shown including GST, Australian customers will be charged GST on monthly access fees.
SMS MESSAGING: SMS charges apply to mobile originated messages & are only available to email addresses & other Iridium subscribers. SMS is only available from selected Iridium handsets including the 9505 & 9505A &9555.
CHANGING PLANS: Call plan changes can be made between 8:30am & 5pm Monday to Friday.Only transfers to a higher value plan are allowable during the contracted period.
UNUSED INCLUDED CALLS: Any unused included call value at month’s end is forfeited.
REPLACEMENT SIM CARDS: Replacement SIM cards are charged at $55.
SUSPENSION OF ACCESS: Customers choosing the Causal plan may request suspension of the service at any time during the four month contract period.
